U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is the United States government’s main agency for the protection of the health of all Americans. They provide essential, life-saving services, designed especially for citizens with lesser means. DHHS administers more grant dollars than all the other federal agencies combined and represents almost a quarter of all federal expenditure. Their Medicare program is the nation’s largest health insurer, receiving and responding to more than one billion health claims per year.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

The Department of Homeland Security’s vital mission is to maintain the security of the nation at all times. The swift eradication and detainment of the multiple security threats the U.S. receives daily requires the continued dedication of more than 230,000 employees in positions ranging from aviation and border security, to emergency response, cyber security analysts, and chemical facility inspectors. Their tasks and responsibilities are wide-ranging and varied, all working towards the common goal of keeping America safe.

U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)

The Department of Defense (DoD), headquartered in one of the world’s largest office buildings, the Pentagon, is America’s oldest and largest government agency, tracing its roots back to pre-revolutionary times. Led by Secretary of Defense, today the DoD is not only in charge of the military, but also employs a civilian force of thousands, committed to safe-guarding national security. With over 1.4 million men and women on active duty, and 718,000 civilian personnel, the DoD is the nation’s largest employer.

U.S. Department of Navy (DoN)

Undoubtedly one of the greatest maritime forces in the world, the U.S. Department of the Navy (DoN) consists of all aspects of the United States Navy and the United States Marine corps. Headed by the Secretary of the Navy, the department carries out the direct orders of the Secretary of Defense and the President of the United States. The DoD employs a vast number of trained professionals afloat, on land, and in engineering positions; all responsible for safe-guarding U.S. interests at sea.

United States Marine Corps (USMC)

One of the seven uniformed services of the United States, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces that uses the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly. The Marine Corps works closely with the DoN for training, transportation, and logistic purposes, and employs just under 203,000 active duty Marines as of October 2010. Marines are held to the highest standards ethically and morally, based on mutual respect and responsibility, in keeping with the title that they have earned.

U.S. Department of Army

The United States Army is the main branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations. The Army is the largest and most established branch of the U.S. military, formed with the primary mission of providing necessary forces and capabilities in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies. The department of the Army constitutes one of the three military departments of the DoD and is headed by the Secretary of the Army, employing over a million regular soldiers, reserves, and National Guard soldiers in varying positions at home and overseas

U.S. Department of Air Force (USAF)

United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces. Initially part of the Unites States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military in 1947. It is today widely recognized as the world’s most technologically sophisticated air force, articulating its core functions across multiple areas, including nuclear deterrence operations, global precision attack, agile combat support, cyberspace security, and personnel recovery. The USAF has more than 300,000 personnel on active duty and nearly half a million further employees in the Air National Guard or civilian personnel

U.S. Department of Commerce

United States Department of Commerce is responsible for promoting economic growth. Originally created in 1903, the department’s mission is to promote job creation and improve living standards for all Americans. They set about achieving this goal by creating an infrastructure that promotes economic growth, technological competitiveness, and sustainable development. The department’s multiple tasks include the gathering of economic and demographic data for business and government decision-making, issuing of patents and trademarks, and helping to fix and maintain high industrial standards.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the U.S. federal department in charge of developing and executing government jurisdiction and policy on agriculture, farming, and food. With the constant goal of meeting the varying needs of farmers and ranchers across the country, the USDA promotes agricultural trade and production, strives towards eradicating global hunger, and works to assure the safety of the food produced and consumed in the United States and abroad.

U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is a key agency that is independent from the government of the United States, so as to maintain their goal of lending support and help to the basic, overall functioning of federal agencies. The GSA provides transportation and office space, supplies, products and communications for U.S. government agencies, and develops policies to minimize costs and expenditure. Employing approximately 12,000 federal workers, the GSA contributes to the annual management of about $500 billion in U.S. Federal property.

National Guard Bureau (NGB)

The National Guard Bureau is the focal point at the strategic level for National Guard matters that are not under the authority and direction of the Secretaries of the Army and Air Force, including joint, interagency, and intergovernmental matters where NGB acts through other DoD officials. The NGB is the channel of communications on all matters pertaining to the National Guard between the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force.
several States.The National Guard, consisting or the Army National Guard and Air National Guard, is the oldest branch of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the nation’s longest-enduring institutions. From historical battles on home soil to more recent and frequent call ups in response to crises in Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq, the National Guard provides security at home and combats terrorism abroad. Today, tens of thousands of Guard Members are actively serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, as the National Guard continues to carry out its historic mission of providing trained and equipped forces to protect life and property, and defending the United States and its interests at home and abroad.

District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG)

The driving goal of the District of Columbia National Guard is to accurately command and control the assigning of apportioned armed forces by providing trained and prepared personnel, equipment and logistic advice to accomplish Federal, District and community missions. The D.C. Guard, on the direct orders of the President of the United States, executes assigned missions to safeguard the well-being of citizens, while providing vital support to both federal and local authorities.

Joint Task Force National Capital Region/Medical (JTF CAPMED)

Effective September 14, 2007, Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England established the JTF CapMed. This joint task force was established to ensure effective and efficient delivery of world-class military healthcare within the National Capital Region (NCR) using all available military healthcare resources and oversee the consolidation and realignment of military healthcare within the joint operating area (JOA) in accordance with the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Act.

JTF CAPMED oversees a high quality, effective and efficient NCR healthcare delivery system dedicated to providing patient and family centered care that is convenient and accessible to beneficiaries. The healthcare system has a strong regional perspective that prioritizes effectiveness first and then identifies efficiencies. Regional healthcare delivery is accomplished by integrating and implementing evidenced based standards in all disciplines. The regional approach involves leveraging mutual support arrangements between adjacent and non-adjacent healthcare facilities and/or realigning JTF CAPMED resources to optimize regional capabilities.
